It's been a week since I got back on a bike. The last time I cycled regularly was probably back in middle school. It feels wonderful to rediscover something this simple.
1. Slow Doesn't Mean Stopped
Cycling reminds me that the process can be slow — as long as there's still progress. Every pedal stroke is a small step forward.
In life, we're often in a rush to get results. But cycling teaches me that what matters isn't how fast you arrive, it's that you keep moving. Every push of the pedals, however light, still brings you closer to where you're going.
2. More Aware of What's Around You
Riding through the village, I find it much easier to smile and wave at people. Before, when I was on a motorbike, I often didn't notice what was around me — the world seemed to move too fast to even say hello.
The slower pace of cycling lets me be truly present. I notice neighbors' faces, hear the sounds of nature, feel the cool breeze. It's not just about getting somewhere — it's about living the journey itself.
3. The Right Kind of Cardio
I tried running once, but it felt too exhausting for longer distances. Cycling strikes a better balance: I still break a sweat, but I actually enjoy the ride.
It gives me a decent cardio workout without wiping me out completely. I can exercise while taking in the scenery, rather than just fixating on how tired I am or gasping for breath.
4. A Small Dream: A Quieter Village
Every time I ride to the café, I feel like I'm somewhere in Europe — a quiet village, free from the noise of engines. Maybe it's a big dream, but every dream starts with a single small step. Maybe that step starts with me.
Imagining a village full of cyclists instead of motor vehicles might sound naive. But every big change begins with someone's small act of belief that it's possible. If not me, then who?
5. Cycling with My Kid = Village Adventures
Sometimes I take my child along for a ride, just looping around the village. Simple, but for them it's a little adventure. And for me, it's a great joy.
Cycling with my child isn't just exercise — it's also a way to introduce them to the beauty of the village we love. With every turn of the wheels, I'm not just pedaling a bike, I'm building precious memories together.
Cycling isn't just about getting from one place to another. It's about enjoying the process, being present in each moment, and sharing simple happiness with the people we love. Sometimes the smallest things in life — like a pedal stroke — are the ones that mean the most.
